Mind Body Movement Classes:

I regularly offer classes combining Qigong and Feldenkrais.  Qigong is a branch of Chinese medicine used as a method of health maintenance, a means to enhance creativity, and a path to spiritual growth. It focuses on both making the body healthy and vibrant as well as calming the mind so that deep clarity and direction can be developed. Contact me for more info.  I am currently on maternity leave from teaching group classes, but can offer private sessions or refer you to my colleagues.

No one can stress enough the importance of support, no matter what route you decide to take.  The emotional ups and downs of the process can make you feel isolated and discourage. Meeting with other women facing the same questions, disappointments and triumphs can be extremely rewarding.  And, as a single mother, learning how to create a support network is a vital skill.  I offer support groups so that women all over the country can meet women navigating similar journeys.

There are a myriad of chat rooms and list servs to subscribe to in order to help you decide what to do.  But sometimes you need a more personal approach.  I have been practicing as a Life and Business Coach for over 8 years now. (See alayacoaching.com). I combine my training as an attorney, life coach, and somatic instructor (Qigong teacher and Feldenkrais practitioner) to bring a unique somatic approach to decision-making and emotional struggles.

The body has a wealth of knowledge and wisdom that is often ignored.  I know that as long as I tried to decide rationally whether or not to have a baby, I kept saying NO.  Logically, I did not want to give up my freedom and devote my life to a little being. But when I let my heart and body speak, the answer was a resounding YES. Yet, even with my extensive training in the body and somatics, it took me close to a year to unravel all the confusion and barriers I had created to get to a YES.

I thought I was through the hardest part, once I decided to have a baby.  Little did I know that I was embarking on one of the most challenging years of my life.  Hope, disappointment, grief, anger, loneliness—you name it, I experienced it.  I had to rely deeply on my spiritual practice and ability to stay present for difficult emotions in order not to give up or harbor bad emotions for life. I made it to the other side of these emotions with clarity and a new perspective.

I’m excited to transition my coaching and somatic skills into an area of work that is so close to my heart so that I can help along this exciting but often difficult journey.
