Choice Mama-Hood?

Are you contemplating single motherhood?  Mr. Right hasn't appeared but you think you might want to be a mother. Contemplating single motherhood is an exciting and daunting proposition. It raises a host of questions.  For me, it took over a year of contemplating different aspects of the process before I could make the decision. It was critical to have someone working with me to point out various stuck points and to reflect back to me what I was really saying.

Many women trying to decide about single motherhood ask themselves:

  • Can I afford it?
  • If I am a single mother will I ever date again?  Will it be impossible to find Mr. Right?
  • Can I face using a sperm donor?  Can I deal with knowing very little about the donor?
  • Do I know anyone I could ask for sperm? If so, what would our relationship be like?
  • Will I be able to raise a child alone?
  • What will it be like for the child not to know his/her biological father or construct another non-traditional relationship with a known donor.

It's important to have a sounding board.  Without one, it can take months or even years to decide.  Sometimes, your eggs can't wait that long. Being a single mother necessitates a lot of support.  You can begin developing that support network now. I'm here to support you through all of the ups and downs of the journey, and help you discover all of your options.
